About the Major

If you are interested in seeking a professional career in Musical Theatre, consider auditioning for the Musical Theatre Program at the University of Utah. As one of four emphases of the Theatre BFA degree, the Musical Theatre Program is a dynamic and demanding undergraduate training experience, offering curriculum that is fundamentally craft-based with rich and intensive courses in singing, acting, and dancing. Once admitted to the program, you will complete our theatre core coursework and work closely with our vocal, dancing, and acting professors in studio and workshop courses. Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty are working professionals who bring their talents, skills, and experience to the classroom, and the Theatre Department regularly invites guest artists and other visiting professionals to complement our existing curriculum. Throughout your studies, you can engage in undergraduate research, internships, and learning abroad experiences, and take advantage of an abundance of performance and choreographic opportunities, including auditioning for roles in the Pioneer Theatre Company during your junior and senior years of study, getting involved in the New Plays Workshop, and performing in the Senior Show. As a graduate of our Theatre BFA Musical Theatre Program, you are well-prepared for advanced training in graduate programs, and you can pursue a career in Musical Theatre in a variety of contexts.
